agenda for unrealistically insisting on raising tax rates. the other tax increase that is set to hit american families very hard very soon is the alternative minimum tax. you recall, mr. president, that that a.m.t. tax was created in 1969, and they did that when someone discovered that there were 155 people all across the country, only 155 people who actually had made a lot of money but they didn't pay any taxes on it. and we know why. it was because of various tax loopholes. congress could have done something to close those loopholes, but instead congress created a whole separate tax scheme. then to make matters worse, didn't index the income limits for inflation. so congress comes along every year and acts a patch to keep the tax from hitting the middle class. the problem is it still has done nothing to patch the a.m.t. for this year. so i have another chart here about the millions of people who will owe the a.m.t. come next april, 2011, three million people paid that a.m.t. remember it was designed because of 155 people who didn't pay taxe

in 2001, they enact a major rate reduction. they let the rate structure of the amt remain intact. that means for people between 1,200,500,000, the exact people potentially subject to this increase in tax under the obama plan did not receive the full benefit of the bush tax cuts. that is just a fat. if your income is over 500,000, you got the rate. as a product of a very bizarre rate structure. congress was quite cognizant of that rate structure when they enact their 2001 act and decided not to change it because it had the impact of making that tax cut look less unaffordable than it actually was. >> host: dennis, blatant, yutaka and independent caller. >> caller: good morning. i have a question for mr. buckley. i think it's a no-brainer. whenever any of my expenses went up, taxes included for taxes that were levied on one of my suppliers for anything under the expenses, i would turn around and up the cost of whatever i was doing to my customer and it seems to me that whatever the tax increase is to businesses, small, medium or large, unless the philosophy has changed a whole lot, t

i'm pleased our trade negotiators were able to negotiate a satisfactory trade rate quota for our pork, but this administration under president obama has fallen short in its obligation to stand up with u.s. farmers on these sanitary and phyto-sanitary standards. in other words, using sound science instead of some i illegitimate reason for keeping our products out of russia. i have communicated time and again what i expected of this administration because they have to negotiate for us. in june 2011, i led a bipartisan letter with senators nelson and 26 other senators to ambassador kirk requesting his negotiators follow the steps that we have taken during consideration of the past w.t.o. accessions. so i refer to china and vietnam as examples for this administration to follow. when these countries joined the w.t.o., we use these opportunities to obtain firm sanitary, phyto-sanitary commitments from those countries that went beyond the w.t.o. sanitary, phyto-sanitary agreements. in particular, we obtained further commitments in areas of meat inspection equivalence. in addition, in june of
